Campus will return to regular operations starting tomorrow, Saturday, May 11. In-person classes and work will resume tomorrow and continue going forward. Any serious disruptions to campus operations may change this guidance and you might receive communication directly from your instructor or supervisor. Law enforcement and other security personnel continue to be on campus to help promote safety and actively monitor conditions.
Per previous Academic Senate guidance on instruction, faculty should return to in-person instruction for courses scheduled as such starting Monday, May 13 (Week 7). In order to continue remote instruction for in-person classes in Week 7 and beyond, instructors must seek departmental authorization.
UCLA Extension will return to in-person classes tomorrow, with any on-campus classes moved to Westwood locations, and will return to normal operations and locations starting Monday.

Community Service Officer (CSO) Safety Escorts have extended daytime and evening hours to provide walking escorts to students, faculty, staff and visitors to and from anywhere on campus, in Westwood Village and in the Village apartments. CSO Safety Escorts are uniformed students who have received special training and are employed by UCPD. Call (310) 794-9255 to schedule a CSO escort or check the CSO website for extended hours and additional information.

AVOID THE AREA of Dickson Plaza due police activity; Police have ordered an evacuation of Dickson Plaza due to an unlawful assembly. DO NOT re-enter the area of Dickson Plaza & follow the direction of public safety personnel. UCLA has modified campus operations.
The University of California Los Angeles has declared the encampment and all unauthorized tents and structures in Dickson Plaza to be unlawful. The University requires that everyone must leave the encampment and adjacent areas, as well as all unauthorized structures and tents immediately, until further notice.
If you fail to leave and remain present in the encampment or unauthorized tents or structures in Dickson Plaza, regardless of your purpose for remaining, you will be in violation of the law and those who choose to remain could face sanctions. For students, those sanctions could include disciplinary measures such as interim suspension that, after proper due process through the student conduct process, could lead to dismissal. Faculty disciplinary actions would be handled through Senate judiciary committees and Academic Affairs and Personnel, and staff employee disciplinary actions would be handled through Human Resources. Please leave the area immediately.

Due to the distress caused by the violence that took place on Royce Quad late last night and early this morning, all classes are cancelled today.
Access to Royce Hall is now closed through Friday. Alternate locations are being identified as options for classes taking place in Royce. Instructors will inform students about further information regarding class location. Faculty should reach out to their departments for possible classroom reassignments.

UCLA has a long history of peaceful protest and we are heartbroken to report that yesterday, some physical altercations broke out among demonstrators on Royce Quad.
We have since instituted additional security measures and increased the numbers of our safety team members on site, including our uniformed Student Affairs Mitigators (SAMs), Public Safety Aides (PSAs), CSC and campus security.
As an institution of higher education, we stand firmly for the idea that even when we disagree, we must still engage respectfully and recognize one another’s humanity. We are dismayed that yesterday certain individuals instead chose to jeopardize the physical safety of the community.

Our approach continues to be guided by several equally important principles: the need to support the safety and wellbeing of Bruins, the need to support the free expression rights of our community, and the need to minimize disruption to our teaching and learning mission.
